Hello everyone! I am turning the page for my blog and routing a different path with today's post. It may seem controversial to some, but I am still going to post. I am not sure about you but I am proud to be an American. I know things are at an all time low in our country, but I am still proud to live in the land of the free. As Americans we have the freedom to express our opinions and exercise our right to vote on potential national leaders and today I would like to show my support for the Republican candidate, Mitt Romney's wife, Ann Romney.
I am sure that many of you are aware there is an upcoming election in November, but I am not sure how many of you follow the news or had a chance to watch the recent Republican National Convention. I will admit that I do not follow politics closely but when elections for President, Senators, Representatives, and Governors take place I do take note and tune in. I really became interested in politics during the last election because it was my first opportunity to exercise my right to vote. I was somewhat interested in politics during the Bush Era, but mainly because of President Bush's wife, Laura Bush. Many young girls and women in today's society are always looking for a role model. When I think of a role model for women I tend to think of former First Lady, Laura Bush. I am a huge fan! She was and still is the epitome of everything I want to become as a future Mother and Educator. Regardless of all the times people tried to tear her daughters and husband down, she showed good old fashion class, reverence, and love. To me, there is so much attention placed on the Presidential candidates that it seems their wives get pushed to the back burner. I feel like the First Lady has to fulfill the expectations of any prominent man's wife. By etiquette, she must sit properly, look pretty, smile, and of course wave. These traits are truly part of her role, however, as a wife and First Lady I believe there is so much more the American people never see regarding the position. Also, I think that not every First Lady gets credit for everything she upholds within her family or represents for our nation’s women.
So, on to Ann Romney...
I am not sure how many people took notice of her designer. This was key because Oscar de la Renta has provided dresses for many past First Ladies since Nancy Reagan, except for Michelle Obama, who has refused to wear items from his collections. At the Democratic National Convention Michelle Obama wore a dress from a Chicago designer who had to close shop doors in 2010 due to bankruptcy. The designer could not pay workers because of new tax laws- How ironic? Regardless of fashion, I think I am falling in love with Ann Romney. I believe she is an all around good woman who could impact women in America further than encouraging children to eat their veggies on the Disney Channel (pun intended for those who know what I am referring to). She and Mitt are adorable and I just love their story. Props to Ann and I hope things turn out well for her and her husband in November. Hard work, dedication, and true love can be a beautiful thing. I am all in for each! More power to those women who care to read more on Ann Romney and her RNC speech. So, on to Ann Romney...
Ann Romney did such a lovely job at giving her speech on behalf of her husband and president hopeful, Mitt Romney. First of all, I know she was on national television, however, she was very graceful and dignified, dressed conservatively tasteful, and did not come across as being snooty. On the contrary, she did not act too relaxed like Michelle Obama tends to do on occasion. I definitely do not think Ann Romney is going to be a Jackie O. fashion influence, but she is the epitome of an all American mom and wife. I would also like to bring out the fact that she seems like such a strong woman. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis a few years ago AND has battled breast cancer, resulting in a lumpectomy. Plus, she has raised five boys! (I do not have children yet but I have babysat boys and if you can successfully raise five, I believe that alone deserves an award.) Lastly, I feel as though I can relate to Ann because she is such a Betty Crocker wanna-be, too! She baked homemade cookies for the reporters and staff that traveled with her to Florida for the Republican National Convention, which I thought was precious. She seemed a little excited about sharing her goodies, but I feel as though I would be pretty stoked if my husband was running for president and I was about to give a speech to millions of people all across the nation. In all, I am very excited for this election and hope that she continues to carry herself with the grace and elegance she has exhibited thus far.
Speaking of fashion, I am going to have a Lauren Conrad moment:
This is the outfit Ann Romney wore during her speech- $1,990 Oscar de la Renta dress from his Fall 2012 collection.
Until next time, the fight for world peace continues and happy blogging to y'all!
