As promised, we have done something together every evening when Tony gets home from work since I no longer am studying or working on projects for school. Wednesday was my first day of no school since I took my last final on Tuesday. I spent the entire day doing absolutely nothing. I did not even get out of my jammers. Nasty? Yes. However, it was a glorious day. (I did brush my teeth!)
That evening we gathered with a group of friends at a local restaurant to play trivia. Tony has been in the past, but this was my first rodeo. While I thought this would be extremely awkward and nerdy, it was actually fun. Plus, our team even won third place out of 16 teams there that night participating. I believe we were given a $10 gift card to use for the next game we attended. Overall, it was pretty cool and I think we are planning to go again sometime soon!
On Thursday, Tony and I met with the same group of friends at the Alabama Theatre in downtown Birmingham for a showing of the Christmas movie, Home Alone. Each night during the month of December the theatre hosts different showings of Christmas movies at discounted rates for families.
I have always longed to visit this historic building since I was a little girl. In middle school my science teacher took us to the McWane Science Center, which is directly beside the Alabama Theatre. Needless to say, I was extremely eager to get to the theatre early to take in its historic beauty and Christmas decorations.
The Alabama Theatre is a landmark of the south. The Alabama Theatre, built in 1927 is one of the few movie palaces in existence. It is used primarily for live productions with special showing of movies during the summer and winter. The building is absolutely gorgeous inside and out. Since we were not able to get great shots inside, I am attaching the website galley. If you have a second check out the other photos by CLICKING HERE. The design, artistic creativity, and architecture is by far the best still remaining in our gorgeous state.
This photo above is actually the photographic aspect I longed for when determining what to order as our wedding "Save The Dates". I adore this building, its meaning, historic values, and preferably this sign. I immediately knew that I wanted to manipulate this as part of our cards. Thankfully, our photographers were amazingly talented and made my dream come true although we could not take our portraits at the venue above.
Look similar? This photo was taken at the Bama Theatre in Tuscaloosa. We rented the marquee for the evening and had our own little photo session with Jessica and Jeremy Franks. (More on wedding photography tomorrow!)
I literally could go on and on about this venue! This chandelier was imported from Venice. I wish I could have taken more photos inside, but there were people everywhere. The decorations are remarkable. However, the building itself is a site to see.

Before the showing, an organ rises from the bottom of the stage for a Christmas carol sing along. Plus, popcorn and drinks are $1 a piece. You cannot beat that anywhere else, friends. The photo below does not do justice. It is such an amazing place to visit if given the chance!
On Friday we (meaning I) spent most of the evening in the kitchen. Tony did a lot of taste testing. We made a few goodies for the week ahead since we are still trying to keep only one sweet in the house at once. We spent the rest of the night getting things done for the week ahead.
This is the first weekend that we have had absolutely no plans. I did not have anything to work on for school and we did not have any out of town plans with family or friends. So, we decided to take each day in stride and do whatever we wanted when we wanted, which was nice for a change. We decided to try something new in town that we have not experienced yet. Then, we finished up a few errands along with everyone who was Christmas shopping in Birmingham.
Saturday we started the day at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. It was such a gorgeous day that we thought it was best to get outside and do something for a little while before the rain next week. Although not many plants were in bloom, it was a neat venue to check out. We plan to attend again during the spring and fall to see all the different plants and flowers again.
Next, we ended up at Bass Pro. Tony likes to browse in all the camo sections and I love to take in all their Christmas decor each year. There were a ton of people there for various reasons so we did not do much browsing.
Santa's Winter Wonderland was absolutely gorgeous this year! If you have children who have not seen Santa, try and find a Bass Pro near you! He looked "real" cool and the decorations certainly impressed. If we had children I am sure we would have been all up in the elf line.
Overall, our weekend thus far has been good. We had a dinner date out and did a little more running around. We ended Saturday checking out some of the famous hot spots for Christmas lights in Pelham and Homewood.
We will not be home any other weekends in the near future so we figured that we would need to check them out now if we really wanted. When we get home from all our visits and traveling we assumed that everyone would have their decor and lights cleaned up. I plan to share those a little late in the week. Stay tuned in! Some of the homes were beyond amazing!
I hope you all have had a wonderful weekend, too! Happy Sunday!
Until next time- Happy Blogging!
