I hope you and those you hold close had a wonderful NYE! Can you believe that tomorrow we will be starting the second week in January already? Where does the time go?
Our New Year's Eve night was spent in our pajamas watching the LSU bowl game and listening to fireworks outside of our apartment. Look out, now! High maintenance and full throttle action right there! Man, how times have changed through the years. I think we were both ready to crash around 10:00PM. We somehow managed to stay up until 12:00AM watching the ever famous Dick Clark's Rocking New Year's Eve Show.
New Year's Eve day I fought with all the other crazies in a crowded Publix and Walmart getting groceries and meal planing in order to cook for the rest of week. We had breakfast for dinner, then did a little ironing, washing, and folding clothes after being gone from home for so long over Christmas.
We live life on edge, y'all. I know you must be jealous! Ha!
Despite the past New Year's Eve experiences we have had together, I truly would not have changed our first married New Year's celebration. It was laid back and just what we needed after being away from home for so long for the holidays while traveling and visiting family. I cannot tell you how exciting it was to sleep in our bed and have our bathrooms again! If you travel often or love your personal space in this same way, then I am sure that you completely understand.
I baked the bacon! If you have not tried baking bacon, DO IT! It was much cleaner, healthier, and tastier! Pop it in a cool oven for 20-25 minutes on a cookie sheet covered in foil. Turn the oven to 350. Let the bacon cook while the oven is heating. Depose of foil immediately once cool.
We went to dinner and a movie on the very first day of 2013. I must say, dinner was a celebration in cuisine style.
We had dinner at Olive Garden, one of my favorites. Actually, it was Tony's first Olive Garden experience and he LOVED it! I was so thrilled he enjoyed his first experience. I am looking forward to going back again soon hopefully.
This is the official movie trailer for This Is 40 in case you have missed it during all of the holiday hoolpa. This movie is good, not great. It is full of crude humor, but full of laughs if you are in need of cheap therapy for two hours.
I hope you have a great day, friends! We took down all of our Christmas decorations and tree last night. All of this clean up is depressing because the holidays were SO much fun.
Would it have been socially unacceptable if we had left our tree up until it died? Just wondering! I was so tempted. I know that I was hating on having a real tree when we bought it at first, but I am so surprised that is lasted this long into the month of January. After two months it is still as pretty as when we first bought it over Thanksgiving! Surprisingly, we did not have to water it often and it did not shed as much as I was expecting.
Before demolition Friday night, I had to grab one last Kodak moment with Tony Harper.
I tried to savor each and every last minute this past week of our beautiful tree and home decor. It feels as though our little home is missing something this morning. I was back in the study enjoying my morning coffee instead of on the couch in viewing distance on the tree and our mantle. :(
It must be that holiday spirit that is missing. Sad thought. How long until Christmas again?
Our dearest Friends and Family:
Thank you so much for all of our beautiful well wishes we received for Christmas and the New Year! We loved having your beautiful families and loving words fill our display on the french doors and mantle.
I was thrilled to come home after traveling for ten days to find triple the amount of holiday cards to that of bills in our mailbox. It was a lovely feeling. If you pay your own bills you know what I am talking about.
We wish the same for each of you during 2013! We also wish you a little bit of love, laughter, and happily ever after along the way, too. :)
