This post is for my little sister, Mary Kathryn. I hope you will all enjoy! :)
Recently, I blogged about how she is growing up and coming out of her shell in many sorts. If you do not know Mary Kathryn, she is special, intelligent, artistic, free spirited, and the baby of our family. Her choice of clothing is changing, she wears make-up now, re-pierced her own ears, has a sassy mouth to go along with a strong willed attitude, and recently got bangs cut to be just like her big sister. Also, she is so tall and starting to act so much more mature (when she wants to). She even is "dating" her first boyfriend and attended her first winter formal during December!
I still cannot believe that she will be 14 years old in three months! By then, it is possible that she will eventually be taller than me. Our sweet, St. Patrick's baby- It seems like just yesterday she was sleeping in a bassinet in the living room all swaddled in blankets and giving my mom a hard time about formula. Boy, time sure has flown since then!
Of course sisters have their ups and downs. Do we fight and argue? Yes! She is 13 and I am 22. We both think we know it all and will take any chance to give our opinion of the other. Also, through the years we have played make believe, dress up, built forts, and told stories together in the dark when we should have been sleeping. We have shared secrets, prayers, hugs, tears, and laughter, and I am blessed to know the joy of sharing my teenage years living at home with a precious soul like that of my sister.
Currently, Mary Kathryn is into photos, music, and her iPod. She has never been too intrigued with photos to the extent that I was at her age. But, now that she is more involved with social media, activities at church, and school she is sending me many Kodak moments that happen each day.
The collages below are a few that I receive on New Year's day. She text me a little sweet note with each that just made my heart melt. Who knew she had such loving, caring words to share?
Although we are 8 1/2 years apart, I feel as though I am more than just a big sister. Sometimes, I have played the mother role, best friend role, teacher role, and sister role depending upon certain situations.
Watching Mary Kathryn grow up has been a total blessing and honor. From day 1 that I heard I was having a sister, my life was forever changed. I am so proud that she is my sister and I cannot wait to see what our relationship will be like in the years to come!
This is a collage she made for all my girls.
This is a collage that she made for Tony and me.
This is the collage she made for her Boyfriend, Triston. :) He is a cutie, I know!
Last, this is the collage that she made of all her friends. (I really do not understand the duck face and its purpose among teenagers these days. If you do, I welcome your philosophy!)
During October 2011- March 2012, times were extremely tough for Mary Kathryn and our family. From day to day we were not sure where things would fall and where we would all end up physical, emotionally, or mentally based upon her health circumstances. Thankfully, with the help, love, prayers, and support of many doctors, friends and family, Mary Kathryn is still growing up in this crazy world. She has definitely taking us all for a ride a time or two and I feel as though there will be many more interesting things we will experience in the years to come. She may still struggle here and there, but at times, if we were all honest I believe we would all admit a struggle here or there. Life is a crazy ride. In order to survive, we just gotta grab the reins and hold on tight! For me to be able to share the journey with her makes life all the more sweeter!
Today, Mary Kathryn knows who she is. She knows where she stands in this life and is not afraid to tell you what she thinks. She is a beautiful fireball waiting to expound at any given minute. She has taught me more in the short 13 (almost 14 years) of life than most people I know who are much older and should be much wiser. I know it sounds cliche, but there is no better friend than a sister. And, there is no better sister than mine! Now, if you all will excuse me while I go cry my eye balls out. If I blink too much, she may be driving soon. I love you, MK! :)
"A sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden thread to the meaning of life."
Isn't she gorgeous? :)
I hope everyone is having a great weekend! Thanks for reading!
As always, until next time- Happy Blogging!
